Two Contracts get 100% Approval Vote
ALSCO –
Russell and I finished nego•tiating this contract around the beginning of August, it’s a five-year agreement with a 31 percenl economic increase and 13.85 percent in the first year. The commission employees will be at 9.5 percent. one of the highest in the country.
Hourly employees will receive a $3-$4 raise in year one. They will also receive a $0.50 pension increase each year.
We negotiated shot/run back protection for the drivers and they will maintain their health and welfare as well. This contract was passed by a 100 percent yes vote by the membership.
Vulcan –
After a long fight with this employer we finally reached an agreement. These eight members fought off a nasty employer and kept their contract intact, it’s a five-year deal with a major 18 percent economic increase. Hourly employees will receive a $2-$3 raise year one.
They will also receive a $0.25 pension increase each year. They will maintain their health and welfare with the employer paying 100 percent of the cost. This agreement was passed by a 100 percent yes vote by the members. When the membership is united. it doesn’t matter how small they are; what matters is how big they are willing to fight.
Atlas –
Great news that Atlas (Americold) will be replaced by a new company called Windigo Logistics on October 15.
The union committee met on August 11 and 12 with Windigo management team to discuss the current warehouse contract and the previous negotiations with Atlas.
Hopefully, we will reach an agreement. I’ll update the membership as updates are available. The Sanitation and Mechanic contracts have not been assumed by Windigo yet, but I believe when ratified, the union and Windigo will sign an assumption letter.
Ruan/Fry’s –
Kroger continues to use Titus Transportation, and I understand the membership is frustrated with this decision. Our drivers must continue to do what Teamsters do, showing why we are above the rest. Titus continues to struggle with delivery failures, damage, and high turnover. which we hope eventually will result in Kroger removing Titus and giving our work back.
USFoods –
As this was written. the union was nearing an agreement with Sysco. As Sysco’s direct competitor, USFoods will now feel pressure to address the current contract to compete in the job market.
If US Foods is open to starting negotiations early, the union is open to this, and will update the membership for proposal meetings. If US Foods does not address the disparities between the two companies, we will start negotiations next year.
Congratulations to members at Young’s Market (RNDC) for ratifying a new three.-year contract on September 10. It took a long six months of negotiations to reach a strong agreement for our members.
These members have now moved from a union 401k to the Western Conference Pension Plan with no cap on their hours.
Business Anget Russell Medigovich and the stewards did a fantastic job. Please remember there is about a one-month delay from the printing of the RMT and things change constantly.
